We have started this website to give an insight to those contemplating work in the North and to give those already there somewhere to discuss ideas and situations.

We aim to add to the site on an almost daily basis and hope you find it useful and informative.

Welcome ...

Welcome to Take it from the Top.  This site is for people who are contemplating or living life teaching "up North".  We hope you find it helpful.  Please contact us with any questions, comments or contributions at takeitfromthetop@hotmail.com.

Moving up North to work in a First Nations Community is rewarding and holds many challenges on many different levels.  We know - we have done it and we want to share our experiences and knowledge to help make it easier for you.

The site was set up in August 2007 with contributions from teachers who have worked in variousl communities throughout the North - some for several years and others for a short time.  We have all faced the transition and hope this website will make your move easier.

Also, it is a place where we hope people who are working in First Nations Communities will feel able to discuss issues and help others in similar situations.  To facilitate freedom of expression - we know that sometimes the frustrations of living in the North need a safe outlet - you have the option of choosing to use an anonymous username.  This means that you can choose not to identify yourself; you can create your own unique username.  Please note however that anonymity and the need to vent do not permit you to be offensive or libelous about people or communities.  Any offensive posts will be removed as soon as they are reviewed.

New content

If you want to make a contribution to the site, either in the form of photographs or by sharing your experiences please contact us at takeitfromthetop@hotmail.com.

All contributions will be accredited accordingly.

First Nations

First Nations People have a rich and varied culture.  This site aims to help give you an insight into this and to how you can best live and work in a First Nations Community.
